How To Set Up Cash Drawer With Receipt Printer

Introduction:

This Application Note explains how to enable and test a Star printer driven Cash Drawer in Windows.Star desktop printers can be configured to automaticaly open a Cash Drawer connected to them after each transaction [in which a sales receipt is printed], or can set disabled if its apperture will be controlled by the POS software.

Supported Printers: All Star Desktop Thermal and  Impact Printers

Supported Cash Drawers:  Star CD3, CD4 and SMD2 (printer driven models)

Supported Environments: Windows 10 (x32 bit/x64bit), 8 (x32 bit/x64bit), 7(x32 bit/x64bit), Vista (x32 bit/x64bit)

Enabling Cash Drawers in Windows with a TSP650II, TSP700II, TSP800II, mC-Print, or SP700 printer.

1) Connect the cash drawer to the the printer's "DK" port with the Star cable included with your Cash Drawer purchase, and power the printer [ON]

Note: Star Cash Drawer cables are labled to indicatie wich end connects to the printer and wich to the cash drawer. If inverted, the CD will not operate.

2) Verify the printer is installed on your computer by going to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel .

3) Right-click the printer's driver and select [Printer Properties].

4) The properties Window will appear. Click theDevice Settings tab.

5) Expand the Peripheral Unit 1 menu

6) Click the [Type] cascade menu and select "Cash Drawer"

7) Click the [Timing] cascade menu and select one of the following:

  • Document Top: Opens the cash drawer before each receipt prints
  • Document Bottom: Opens the cash drawer after each receipt prints

8) Click  [Apply] to save.

9)  To test, click the [General] tab and [Print Test Page] to print a test and open the Cash Drawer.

If succesful, the printer will print a Windows test-page and open the Cash Drawer following your selected confiuration: before or after the printed page.

Congratulations! You have successfully enabled your Star Cash Drawer with your Star Micronics printer and set  open with the driver.

Enabling Cash Drawers in Windows with the TSP100 printer series.

1) Connect the cash drawer to the the printer's "DK" port with the Star cable included with your Cash Drawer purchase, and power the printer [ON]

    Note: Star Cash Drawer cables are labled to indicatie wich end connects to the printer and wich to the cash drawer. If inverted, the CD will not operate.

2) Verify the printer is installed on your computer by going to Devices and Printers  in the Control Panel .

3) Right-click the printer's driver and select [Printer Properties].

4) The property windows will appear. Click theDevice Settingstab.

5)Expand the Peripheral Unit Type  menu and select Cash Drawer .

6) Click on Peripheral Unit 1 dropdown menu and select one of the following:

  • 6) Click the [Peripheral Unit 1] cascade menu and select one of the following:

    • Document Top: Opens the cash drawer before each receipt prints
    • Document Bottom: Opens the cash drawer after each receipt prints

7) Click [Apply] to save .

9)  To test, click the [General] tab and [Print Test Page] to print a test and open the Cash Drawer.

If succesful, the printer will print a Windows test-page and open the Cash Drawer following your selected confiuration: before or after the printed page.
