"With great power, there must also come great responsibility."
- The "Peter Parker Principle"

Peter Parker was an ordinary kid down on his luck until he was bitten by a radioactive spider, turning him into the superhero Spider-Man.

Did you know? The famous quote from Peter's Uncle Ben Parker - "With great power comes great responsibility" - long predates its 1960s appearance in Spider-Man Comics. Its predecessors include:

  • "When there is great power there is great responsibility." - Winston Churchill, 1906
  • "The possession of great power necessarily implies great responsibility." - William Lamb, British Parliament, 1817
  • "They must contemplate that a great responsibility is the inseparable result of a great power." - Document of the French National Convention, 1793
  • "To whomever much is given, of him will much be required." - Luke 12:48, circa 58

Uncle Ben's words of wisdom are therefore in good company!
